EA App: first sign-in and changing your email

EA accounts sign in with an email address and use two-step verification that sends a code by email. This guide takes you from the first sign-in to owning the email address.

Before you start

Keep the order page open. It has two boxes:

  • EA Login Data — the account's Username and Password
  • Email Login Data — the email address tied to the account, and its password

Have your own working email address ready too.

Steps

Step 1 — Sign in on the website first, not the EA App

Click Login Page on the order page, or open ea.com and sign in.

Always use a browser first. The EA App on your machine usually remembers your own account and shows far fewer error details.

Step 2 — Enter the email and password

Copy them from the EA Login Data box with the copy icon. Do not type them by hand.

Step 3 — Get the verification code

EA sends a code to the account's email address. Go back to the order page, click Get OTP Code From Email, and paste the code.

If no code appears, click Show full emails — EA sometimes sends a link instead of a code.

Step 4 — Change the email first

  1. Open myaccount.ea.com → Account Settings
  2. Under About Me, edit the Email field
  3. Enter your own new address
  4. EA sends a verification code to the old address — click the OTP button on the order page again
  5. Open your own inbox and confirm through EA's link

Always change the email before the password. If you change the password first and hit a problem, you can no longer verify through the old address.

Step 5 — Change the password

Same page → Security → Edit password.

Step 6 — Make two-step verification yours

Under Security → Login Verification, point the code at your new email address, or use an authenticator app.

Step 7 — Only now open the EA App

Sign out of your existing account in the EA App first, then sign in with the new address and password.

What to watch out for

  • An EA account and a Steam account are different things. Some EA games bought on Steam still require a separate EA sign-in. Do not confuse the two.
  • Do not change the EA ID (display name) early on — EA limits how many times you can.

If you get stuck

EA says the account is temporarily locked

This comes from entering the password wrong several times. Wait 30 minutes to an hour and try again. Retrying repeatedly only extends the lock.

You clicked Get OTP but no code appeared

EA sends a link instead of a code in some cases. Use Show full emails.

You changed the email but the EA App still signs in with the old one

The EA App keeps a session. Sign out inside the app and sign back in.
